Bring your Books to bloomfield

Give Books: Support Your Local Bookshop

Welcome!

We’re a small, woman-led secondhand bookshop in the heart of Bloomfield, and we love helping your pre-loved books find their next chapter. Sharing your books with us is a wonderful way to clear your shelves while making sure the stories you loved find a second life in the hands of a neighbour or the next happy reader. Your generosity helps our independent business grow, keeps our village vibrant, and ensures that The County remains a place where great reading is always within reach.

Our Current Intake Policy: Pre-loved Books Welcome

We often get asked if we accept used books from the community, and the answer is a hearty yes! We are so grateful for the neighbours who help us keep our shelves stocked with treasures.

While we curate our inventory from many sources, these community gifts are a vital way we keep our prices accessible and our selection diverse. If you have books looking for a new home, we would be honoured to host them on our shelves!

A few things to note:

  • Donations Only: To keep our operations simple as we grow, our community intake is currently focused on donations; we do not offer cash or trade-in value at this time.
  • Supporting a Local Business: Every book gifted to the shop is a direct contribution to our growth as a small, independent business where we work hard to help good books find new hands. Because we are not a registered charity, we cannot provide tax receipts, but we can promise your books will be handled with care and appreciation.
Why Give to the Local Bookshop?
  • Find Your Books a Worthy Home: Your favourite novels and nonfiction are placed with care, and we’ll work hard to find the exact right person to enjoy them.
  • Keep it Local: Instead of your books ending up in a massive corporate bin or a landfill, they stay right here in The County to be enjoyed by locals and visiting booklovers.
  • The Joy of Re-homing: There is a unique peace of mind that comes from re-homing books rather than just letting them go. You’re making room for new adventures while passing your old favourites on to the next reader.
  • Support a Cultural Hub: Your donations directly help us host local book clubs, workshops and community programs that make Bloomfield & The County a more connected place to live.
What We’re Looking For

We gratefully welcome a wide range of items in good condition:

  • Books: Novels, fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, how-to, and textbooks (Hardcover and Softcover).
  • Media & Games: Vintage magazines and newspapers, audiobooks, puzzles (complete sets), and board games (all pieces present).

A Note on Condition: To keep our shop healthy, we cannot accept items that are moldy or severely damaged. While some “foxing” (age spots) is just fine for vintage finds, we can’t take encyclopedias or items headed for the bin.

Special Books: Rare, Old, & Unusual

While our general intake is donation-based, I am always on the lookout for the weird and wonderful. If you have a collection of antiquarian books, rare local histories, or particularly unique editions, please do get in touch.

For these special treasures, I am happy to chat about potential purchase or consignment options on a case-by-case basis. If you think you have something truly one-of-a-kind, feel free to inquire with a few photos or a description, and we can go from there.

How a Book Finds its Next Home

In the secondhand book world, we price according to value and condition. Most modern books are valued based on their accessibility: we price them so that someone else in our community can afford to discover that book. While some rare or antiquarian volumes do increase in value with age and rarity, most contemporary titles find their greatest value in being passed from one set of hands to the next.

Every book that enters our collection is:

  • Carefully Inspected & Cleaned: To ensure it’s ready for a new home and a new shelf.
  • Researched & Priced: To find that sweet spot between its market value and community accessibility.
  • Curated & Displayed: We provide the physical space and the intentional curation needed to help every book find its next reader.

We know there are many places you could choose to share your books, and we are truly honoured when you choose to invest them here. Your gift is a direct contribution to the hard work of keeping a rural, independent bookshop thriving.

How It Works

1. Curate & Pack

Gather your pre-loved books. Please ensure they are in good, clean condition (no mold or heavy damage).

2. Visit the Shop or Reach Out Online

Drop by during our regular hours during the week (Mon–Fri, 10–5). We are on the second floor and we’re happy to meet you at the entrance to help!

Alternatively, if you are a local in the Quinte area and would like to inquire about book pick-up, reach out via the online form and we’d be happy to explore options.

3. Spread the Word

While we can’t offer cash or trade-in value at this time, your donations directly support & build community. Tell a friend about your favourite find!

Connecting Your Favourites with Their Next Reader

We believe books carry memories and meaning: when you share yours with us, you’re making sure those stories find a new life.

Thank you for being a part of our story and for supporting a rural, woman-led bookshop. We’re excited to welcome your books!

With appreciation, Katy and Idyll Books

Idyll Books and the Circular Economy

At Idyll Books, we believe in the power of the Circular Economy. Choosing a shop focused on secondhand books is a small but mighty way to support a healthy community economy. When you share or buy a pre-loved book here, you’re helping to create a sustainable cycle that keeps resources, knowledge, and history in motion.

This model allows us to keep prices accessible for our neighbours and gives books a life beyond traditional publishing cycles. By keeping books circulating locally, we ensure that our shared wealth of information and stories continues to find new life on our community’s shelves for years to come. It’s a sustainable way to grow together, ensuring that a love for reading remains a vibrant part of life in the County.
